Training and workshops

MatCalc is a software package that has much to offer. Still, some knowledge is needed if the user wants to use its full potential.

We offer training courses for anybody interested in using the software MatCalc. Regardless of your knowledge on the precipitation and microstructure evolution processes, we will show you how to setup, perform and interpret the simulations and get the maximum information out of it.

Regular basic and advanced courses

We conduct an introductory training course every summer (usually in the first half of August), as well as a workshop for the advanced users (usually in the first half of December). Click here for announced courses.

Basic course contents (22 full hours):

- Introduction in MatCalc: GUI and first steps

- Theory: thermodynamic equilibrium, driving forces, databases, ...

- Practical training: How to create a workspace, simple equilibrium calculations, stepped calculations ...

- Practical training: Graphical representation of results, data export, ...

- Scheil-Gulliver type calculations (theory and practice)

- T0- temperature (theory and practice)

- Using scripts in MatCalc (examples)

- Theory: Phase transformation and precipitation- Practice: How to set up precipitation kinetics simulations

- Theory: Introduction to the SFFK Model

- Theory: Nucleation theory and implementation into MatCalc

- Practice: Changing nucleation conditions: Ortho- / paraequilibrium nucleus composition, nucleation sites, etc.

- Theory: Treatment of interfacial energies.

- Theory and practice: Grain boundary precipitation versus random distribution: the importance of the correct diffusion field geometry

- Calculation of TTP-diagrams (theory and example)

- Discussion / analysis of practical examples of users

Advanced course contents (16 full hours):

- Grain growth models: Single-class, Multi-class

- Interaction of precipitate kinetics with grain growth: Zener pinning, solute drag

- Dislocation density evolution models

- Interaction of precipitation kinetics with dislocation density evolution – strain induced precipitates

- Subgrain growth model: static recovery, dynamic recovery

- Recrystallization model: single- and multi-class grain growth based

- Vacancy dynamics: quenched-in vacancies, vacancy trapping

- Yield strength modeling: evaluation of mechanical threshold

- Flow curve modeling

- Discussion / analysis of practical examples of users

On-site training

To meet our customer needs, we can organize training at the location chosen by our customer. In this case, the topics of the course can be chosen according to customer wishes. Feel free to share your needs about a training event with us and we will be happy to provide you with a suitable offer.

Online training

Trainings can be also organized in an online mode. We provide a reliable web meeting platform with screen sharing and session recording capability. Of course, the course contents can be adjusted to your specific needs. Let us know when you are interested in an online training and we find a solution matching your expectations.
